AACR as a part of a ChemSkills Project

The chemical industry is at a transformative juncture, with digital and green revolutions reshaping its landscape. One of the pioneers in these paradigm shifts is the ChemSkills project, anchored in the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS). It aims to equip professionals in the chemical sector with the necessary skills and knowledge to adapt to these changes effectively. Here’s an overview of what the ChemSkills project entails.

ChemSkills is designed to develop skills and provide educational training for all levels of education, including re-skilling and up-skilling of the existing workforce. The initiative aligns with the European Year of Skills, which is focused on professional training, education, and improving the qualifications of employees. The project also aims to address the quadruple or 'double twin' transition that the chemical industry is currently undergoing, encompassing green and digital transformation, circularity, and the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS).

Funded by the ERASMUS+ scheme, ChemSkills is an ambitious initiative involving 33 partners and 2 associate partners from many countries across Europe. The project officially commenced on September 1, 2023, and is meant for implementation within four years.

The inception meeting took place from September 13-15 in Brussels, Belgium. It featured presentations of brainstorming sessions, and a discussion on the future steps of the project. The kick-off meeting culminated to an excellent collaboration and creative atmosphere. The project was inaugurated by Emma Argutyan, CEO of the European Chemical Employers Group (ECEG). Following that, Emilia Venot, the Project Officer of the European Commission (EC), presented the European Union’s perspective on the project.

The project plans to cover several sub-sectors of the chemical industry, including:

• Plastics

• Consumer Chemicals

• Fertilizers

• Rubber

• Pharmaceuticals

• Petrochemicals

ChemSkills will identify and develop green and digital skills, in addition to skills required to produce “safe and sustainable chemicals by design” within these sub-sectors. It will also map existing skills and develop emerging occupational profiles and related qualifications.

AACR’s Participation

Work Package (WP 7) focuses on agricultural fertilizers and aims to revamp re-skilling and up-skilling processes in the transformation of the chemical industry. AACR, represented by Tomáš Gago, is part of this significant project and collaborates with other key partners including the European Landowners’ Organisation (ELO), AgriLand Nord, and the Association for Innovative Farming (AIF).
